Today is the launch for the iPhone in U.K and in Germany… it will be quite interesting to see how many iPhone Apple is going to sell this quarter. And by the end of the month Apple will be adding France to the list of countries that can use the iPhone… Interesting enough France will be the country where it will be totally legal to have an iPhone unlocked -more expensive yes, but legally unlock… I bet that it will open a brand new market of import of unlock iPhone back to the other countries including the US.It seems too that today we’re going to get a 1.1.2 Software Update for the iPhone and iPod touch. The first set of screenshot floating around the web are showing additional support for the new language.
So big news today on Apple Hot News, here is the beginning of what’s announced:
Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers. It will take until February to release an SDK because we’re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once—provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc.
So tonight I found a great article on the MacObserver. John Martellaro is describing in a non geek way what is the equivalent of the latest Software update for the iPhone (1.1.1) and how it will translate in the car world.I think this is a good read and provide a good explanation on why Apple did warn users prior to the update, and why Apple at least now is not providing an SDK. I think an SDK will be coming (WWDC’08 ?) but Apple want to be sure that it will work on the iPhone nicely. It’s all about the experience and Apple want probably to show the example first.
So here it is : iPhone 1.1.1 is out with many new features… I am sure that you have seen the news in various other places.
One thing that I am going to start investigating is what are the new features in Safari… I think that many things have been changed and new JavaScript functions that did not use to work are now working. So rather than posting a quick list of what’s new, I want first to play with it and see what I can be adding to inewsonly.com site.
In the list of new settings, one is interesting if you’re travelling : you can now turn off roaming… that can save you a tons of money!
Here is a good tip that I found on iPodObserver. The tip explain how you can have now the traditional capslock working on the virtual keyboard of the iPhone.Yes it seems to be a small thing, but many time I wish I knew about this feature. Here is a quick summary of it: Continue reading »
Quite an interesting day yesterday where Steve Jobs did publish an open letter (see the text here). Clearly I think that Steve and Apple did not really evaluate well the customer impact on the price drop… which for me I read that sign as the fact that Apple has a really strong and vocal user based for their iPhone : a sign of success. Don’t you think that if the iPhone was a failure the price drop will have been making so much news? It shows that the iPhone owner care about their product and the user based is large, I was hoping that Steve will drop some real numbers on the total iPhones sold since july 1st Continue reading »
So finally we got the new iPod touch !! I am not sure about the new name : iPod touch vs iPod classic, but from a technical point of view the new iPod touch is exactly what I was expecting. And in addition we have now an iTunes store WiFi ! That’s going to be fun.I can’t wait to stop by an Apple Store and see the new gadget in real life : 8mm that seems to be really really thin compared to my iPhone. Continue reading »
So finally we are September 5 !The special Apple Event held in Moscone Center in San Francisco is just a couple hours from now… I have really high expectation for this event. I really strongly believe that we’re going to see a brand new generation of the iPod which in a way mean the death of the old generation with the scroll wheel…I believe that the new generation will be based on OS X and will have a similar shape factor as the iPhone, Continue reading »
I came across this article from eWeek where ‘power users’ discuss the lack of the iPhone…First of all how do you define a Power User ?The folks they’re mentionning are may be known for what they created but why are they power users when compared to anyone else ?The only statement in the article that I agree with is about the lack of search in Mail… Continue reading »
So today I am changing the color of the middle column… Not sure if it’s better or not, I will need to get some feedback. In addition I am adding now a link at the top for the Blog, that will hopefully help me get some feedback. One thing that will be really great will be to get an improved list of sites where inewsonly can grab the content.
